Thumbs up, Thumbs Down with Commish Scherbak

Cory Schneider has been impressive for the Boston Bruins thus far
Thumbs up to the Boston Bruins. After posting a 32-42 record last season, Boston has come out strong with a 4-1 record. Goaltending has been a key factor in this success as this season could be Cory Schneider’s true coming out party. Schneider struggled last season going 13-21-5 with a 3.60 GAA and a weak .869 save% Thus far, Schneider has gone 4-1-1 with a 1.64 GAA and a beautiful .940 save%. Marc Savard, Patrik Elias, and Dustin Kohn all share the lead Boston in scoring with 6 points in 6 games.
Thumbs down to the Carolina Hurricanes. Once known as the NSHL’s most dominate team, the Hurricanes have relinquished themselves to a 1-4 start to the season. Vezina runner-up Roberto Luongo has been abysmal 4.84 GAA and a .800 save%. If the Hurricanes want to get back into the hunt, they have got to get their act together and quick as we all know, the East can be a tumultuous conference.
Thumbs up to Josh Harding. Harding has always been viewed as an unsung hero in the NSHL, helped drive Philly to the playoffs last season including the epic knockout of the Pittsburgh Penguins in four games. Harding leads starters with a 1.22 GAA and a .951 save%, both league bests. He also put on a spectacular show against the Phoenix Coyotes, saving 35 of 36 shots. Philly remains unbeaten this season and their only slip-up occurred in a rare 0-0 tie against the Nashville Predators.
Thumbs down to Dany Heatley. The Montreal Canadien was supposed to supply the offense for Montreal this season. Considered one of the best rated left wingers in the NSHL, Heatley has three assists in five games thus far. What sticks out most is his -8 rating. If Heatley wants to stick it out in the pressure cooker known as the Montreal media, he has got to get his act together, start playing with his heart, or else he could find himself on a one-way trip going anywhere.
Thumbs up the NSHL GMs! Thus far, we have seen a steady amount of activity from all of our General Managers. Teams are getting in lines constantly and that’s all I can really ask. Looking forward to another year of running this league.
